Emily in Paris season 4 has been delayed during the Writers Guild of America strike. The series, which comes from Sex and the City creator Darren Star, stars Lily Collins as the titular Emily, an American who becomes a fish out of water when she gets a job as a social media guru for a marketing company in France. The ensemble cast of the series includes Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, Camille Razat, William Abadie, and Lucien Laviscount.
Per Variety, production on Emily in Paris season 4 has been delayed by two months during the ongoing writers strike while the WGA pushes their fight for fair writer compensation into its sixth week. The new season was originally set to kick off production in late summer or early fall. Reportedly, Netflix intends to stick to a late fall production kickoff, though if the strike extends even longer, this could impact the season in currently unforeseen ways.
Emily In Paris Is Far From The First Netflix Project To Be Delayed
During the writers strike, the landscape of film and television has already started to change. Until the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers agrees to the WGA’s terms, which include a minimum capacity on writers rooms and proper residuals for streaming titles, pencils are down, and new scripts are not allowed to be written. Unscripted series are booming in an attempt to compensate, but many scripted series are tentpoles for their respective networks and streamers.
For instance, Emily in Paris joins a long list of Netflix projects that have been impacted by the stalled negotiations between the WGA and the AMPTP. This includes Big Mouth season 6, the popular animated series which has a second season of its spinoff Human Resources premiering this month. Other shows that have been impacted are Stranger Things season 5, Cobra Kai season 6, the Rob Lowe series Unstable, and the sitcom The Upshaws.
It will likely be some time before Netflix shows signs of being impacted by the writers strike. The platform’s production schedule means that many films and series have been completed far in advance of their premieres, including series like Heartstopper season 2, which is set to premiere this August. However, within a year when delays on series like Emily in Paris begin to pile up, the effects will be felt severely if a deal isn’t struck soon.
