Prince Harry has opened up about the moment he told his family that his wife Meghan Markle was pregnant with their first child in his new memoir, Spare
Prince William had a mere four words to say when Prince Harry informed him that Meghan Markle was expecting their first child.
Harry and Meghan were over the moon when they discovered they were going to be parents in 2018. They chose to share the joyous news with the Royal Family in October of that year at Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank.
Harry documented the moment in his memoir, Spare, revealing he broke the news to his brother during the reception at St George’s Hall in Windsor. He penned: “We were in a big room, suits of armour on the walls. Strange room, strange moment.”
Harry remembered William’s reaction to his announcement, saying he smiled and said just four words: “We must tell Kate.”

Harry also described the Princess of Wales’ response, stating she was thrilled to hear the news. He noted: “She also gave a big smile and hearty congratulations. They both reacted exactly as I hoped – as I’d wished.”
Meghan and Harry also informed King Charles about their pregnancy at the wedding.
The Duke of Sussex revealed that the monarch was overjoyed upon hearing the news. In his memoir, Harry recalled: “Just before a drink reception for the bride and groom, we cornered Pa in his study. He was delighted to learn that he was going to be a grandfather for a fourth time; his wide smile warmed me.”

The Sussexes have since welcomed a second child, Princess Lilibet, born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California on June 4, 2021.
In his memoir, Harry also shared his experience of the birth of his first child, admitting he was extremely anxious beforehand. To calm his nerves, Harry decided to try the laughing gas intended for his wife.
However, when Meghan’s labour began, Harry had to apologize for accidentally using the entire canister of laughing gas. He wrote: “When her contractions began to quicken, and deepen, a nurse came and tried to give some laughing gas to Meg. “There was none left.
The nurse looked at the tank, looked at me, and I could see the thought slowly dawning: Gracious, the husband’s had it all. Sorry, I said meekly.”
