Despite the resemblance, Antony Starr doesn’t want to associate Homelander with Donald Trump.
Many fans would probably have been asking if Antony Starr’s Homelander is assumed to represent or mirror former US President Donald Trump and the actor has a witty response to it. The show is a satire and social commentary, after all, so it’s not surprising that politics may be brought up from time to time.

What fans loved about the series is its dark theme and serious tone, but mostly, its allegory to many issues in society such as authoritarianism, political fanaticism, and social injustice.
Antony Starr Clarifies If Homelander Is Supposed To Be Donald Trump
During his guesting on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, The Boys actor Antony Starr was asked by the host if the name of Donald Trump ever comes up when he talks about Homelander, and his dank response? “I don’t know who that is!”
The New Zealand native continued, “One of the things that I’ve deliberately gone against is I don’t want to make him like that.” He said that series creator Eric Kripke was the one who usually compares Homelander with Trump.
Eric very much likens that character to that person, but oddly enough I always felt like if we did model it on that person, it would be a two-dimensional cardboard cut-out of a character, and we wanted to make something with more layered, more dimension to it.

He later revealed how he built Homelander’s character by designing him a multifaceted personality. “We wanted to make something better than that, so I think, like, you take a little bit from life, there’s a little bit of, dare I say, Obama…” and that’s exactly how he would pull every little piece of everything and combine them all together.
Although Starr said that he did not want to look at Homelander modeled after Trump, fans can still notice the resemblance and that’s totally fine. Interpretations of characters may vary.
How Antony Starr Worked On Becoming Homelander

While speaking with Uproxx, Starr confessed how he got into the mindset of someone like Homelander. While he seemed like a nice person, as the interviewer mentioned, the actor claimed he was able to get in touch with the dark parts of himself.
It’s just one of those things where everyone’s got a dark side, and we live in a world of duality, and everything contains its opposite, so I think you have to be in touch [with it] if you’re in a creative workplace, the darker parts of yourself as well as the lighter parts.
The Cobweb actor’s way of building his television character is already treading on the dangerous side of the road. He argues that if he won’t do it, “it’s gonna be a little saccharine and not honest and probably a bit one-dimensional.”
Starr’s dedication to his craft proves how brilliant of an actor he is, and he knows exactly how to steer the direction of Homelander in the show.
The Boys is streaming on Prime Video.
