Most importantly, the trailer for Skeleton Crew has finally been released.

In addition to providing brand-new details about this upcoming Star Wars show, the trailer finally revealed more about Jude Law’s mysterious character, who has been prominently featured throughout promotions for the show. In fact, Jude Law’s character finally has a name. With this revelation, though, came a series of questions about who this character is and what he may represent in the Star Wars franchise.

Jude Law Is Clearly Playing A Force-Sensitive

Jude Law is confirmed to be playing a character named Jod Na Nawood in Skeleton Crew, making him, evidently, an unknown in the Star Wars universe. However, the trailer revealed a shocking detail about him, even though he was only shown very briefly. Specifically, Jod Na Nawood is confirmed to be Force-sensitive.

Jod Na Nawood is confirmed to be Force-sensitive.

In the trailer, Nawood can be seen floating a key through space via the Force. This was the first confirmation Skeleton Crew has offered regarding whether any Force-users would be included in the show. Although many Star Wars stories have, of course, centered on Force-users, more recent projects, such as Andor, have started to pull away from this tradition.

In fact, it seemed as though Skeleton Crew might follow in Andor’s footsteps in that regard. Andor is a boots-on-the-ground story about Rebel fighters who are not directly associated with the Jedi. Similarly, Skeleton Crew was billed as a coming-of-age story following a group of children who are lost in the galaxy. Initially, it seemed as though this might not feature Jedi or Force-sensitive characters. Now, it’s clear that isn’t the case.

The Skeleton Crew Kids Believe He’s A Jedi… But Is He Something More?

Despite Nawood’s clear Force sensitivity, it remains unclear whether he truly is a Jedi. In the trailer, the children refer to him as such, but that could simply be an assumption based on his use of the Force. As Star Wars has made clear, especially in recent years, aptitude with the Force is not what makes a Jedi; plenty of Force-sensitive beings exist in the galaxy who are not Jedi.

Surely, the show will reveal this with time, which will prove particularly interesting given the era in which Skeleton Crew is set. Skeleton Crew is confirmed to be set at the same time as The Mandalorian, meaning that Nawood would be a Jedi during the New Republic era, when Jedi were few and far between. This could have massive implications for Star Wars, suggesting that Skeleton Crew might be a true game changer for the franchise.
