The Lord Of The Rings‘ Éowyn actor Miranda Otto reveals that she hasn’t watched The Lord of the Rings: The Rings Of Power just yet. The actor first portrayed the Rohan noblewoman who would take up arms against the rising darkness of Mordor in Peter Jackson’s 2002 adaptation of J.R.R Tolkien’s fantasy epic’s middle chapter, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Otto will reprise Éowyn by voicing her in the upcoming animated movie The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, set to release in April 2024.

As The Rings of Power season 2’s production continues, Metro discussed the series with Otto, admitting that she had yet to watch the prequel series. Though Otto stated she would watch it eventually, the actor explained she feels that either going back to rewatch her own contributions to the franchise or anyone else’s could be a strange experience. Check out Otto’s full response below:

“I haven’t watched Rings of Power but I will get around to it at some stage. It’s a funny thing for me because the experience for me was so special that it kind of sits contained for me in that moment. I wish [them] every success, but in some ways, it would be funny for me to go back and try and watch it or watch others.”

Otto isn’t the only star of Jackson’s trilogy features to open up about her experiences with the Prime Video prequel series. Richard Armitage, who portrayed Dwarven King Thorin Oakenshield throughout Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, also revealed that he hadn’t watched The Rings of Power. The actor explained that he had no interest in the fantasy genre after dedicating himself to The Hobbit‘s production for over two years. While Otto and Armitage haven’t seen The Rings of Power yet, several cast members from Jackson’s trilogies have shared their thoughts on the show.

Andy Serkis, who portrayed Gollum throughout Jackson’s initial The Lord of the Rings adaptation and 2012’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, praised the series, calling it loyal to what came before. Similarly, Pippin Took actor Billy Boyd lauded The Rings of Power for expanding the series onto the small screen, and Legolas actor Orlando Bloom revealed he looked forward to where future seasons would take Tolkien’s world. As such, while some of Jackson’s cast has yet to watch The Rings of Power, the series has earned the seal of approval from many voices who helped bring Tolkien’s world to screen.

While Otto’s reveal that she has yet to watch The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power may be surprising, her explanation is understandable. Jackson’s initial trilogy was an ambitious undertaking for its time that required an incredible amount of dedication from those behind the scenes, bringing them closer and making it an emotional experience. With Otto returning to the universe voicing Éowyn, she may eventually get to watching the series soon.
