Reacher is an anthology series, so each season introduces a new storyline and supporting cast. While some members of the ensemble will likely not appear again in future seasons of the show, the Amazon Original project does leave room for season 3 to have returning characters. Admittedly, having characters reprise their roles in the series poses a narrative challenge due to the nature of the show. It is still essential that people who were important to the title character’s growth be part of the Reacher season 3 cast, specifically one member of the 110th.

How Reacher Season 2’s Ending Sets Up O’Donnell’s Return
Reacher Is Likely To Call On O’Donnell In Reacher Season 3
In the Reacher season 2 ending, Richtson’s hero promised Neagley he would keep in touch with his family, thereby setting up O’Donnell’s possible return in future seasons of the series. If O’Donnell were to be featured in Reacher season 3, it’s likely that he won’t be engaged in dangerous missions because of the responsibility he has to his family. Instead of having a major role like he did in season 2, O’Donnell could get involved in Reacher’s next case in the same way that Finlay did in the sophomore season.
While O’Donnell’s happy-go-lucky personality was the perfect match for Reacher’s stoic nature, he’ll probably just have a cameo if he is going to appear in Reacher season 3.
Since Reacher told Neagley he wouldn’t be distant, he might call O’Donnell for help when he needs him. That way, his former teammate and friend could help Reacher without putting himself in any danger. While O’Donnell’s happy-go-lucky personality was the perfect match for Reacher’s stoic nature, he’ll probably just have a cameo if he is going to appear in Reacher season 3, the same way that Finlay did in season 2. Still, that is so much better than not seeing him again ever.
